Travel expectations vs. reality:

Travel expectations vs. reality:

Travel can be fascinating and at the same time be a wild dream. We’ve all seen those beautiful, postcard-perfect pictures of different safari destinations on the internet that made us start thinking which photos we’ll have printed and hung on our walls when we come back home.

The high built travel expectations on our future trips Most of us build up high vacation expectations for our future trips while we go through guidebooks choosing which places to visit. You look for the best restaurants in Uganda to eat and sleep.

But in reality, will this be happening when you are on a budget safari in Kenya? No this realy happens, because we expect these safari destinations like the gorillas of Rwanda are not as cheap as what we think. More often than not, what we see in real life looks nothing like that postcard picture we saw before the trip and this is the moment where reality strikes you hard.

travel expectations

Every destination can give you the “postcard effect”, but did you know the cost of that effect. Cheap safaris in Africa will be good but that is not where the picture is taken. The pictures will be taken on the very spot that shows value.

In fact, most of them won’t. Places that are heavily advertised like the mountain gorillas of Uganda might end up being dirty and tire some to trek. The trekking routs may not favor the seniors as the pictures and news tells.

For different reasons, many places simply don’t live up to the hype. And this happens all the time, even to the most optimistic and open-minded travelers out there. Most of the time this happens because we expect too much.

If you do get disappointed after a trip, don’t blame the destination or the travel agency that took you. Blame the expectations you’re unnecessarily building up. Personally, when I travel I try not hype about it that much and let the flow take the course. After all it’s about me and the new adventures iam yet to explore.

My first time boarding a plane I expected it to look like heaven, hmm this was just a normal bus am used too. The only difference it was flying and no pot holes and hooting like here in Kampala. I was quite devastated and though all this money for sitting in this bus.

But it is what it is it’s an airplane and my expectations gave me a very big disappointment. Though at the end of the day I love it and enjoyed the flight.

Expect to find overpriced food, over priced hotels and souvenirs as well as budget and luxury true characters of wilderness and things. But you take time and think of may be having a self drive safari or taking to a tour operator and tell them exactly what you want. You may get a Uganda safari of your expectations.

In reality a wild safari place will always be a wild safari place regardless of how mankind will always hype it up and try to change a few things. There is no lion that will be as beautiful as the one you will see edited on a post card.

However if you let the floor take you up you will actually like it and enjoy a lot more without expecting too much and you get the real reality at the ground. Just go with the flow the expectations will build them serves as you go ahead.

Some things actually on a tour will wooo you up; you will get more that what you expected. Things like the persons and hospitality, nice foods and culture, great lodges and accommodations.

Stay flexible and keep an open mind. Always be prepared that something uncertain might happen and don’t let that spoil your trip. Remember that nothing is ever as it appears, especially when it comes to traveling and take lofty expectations with a grain of salt. And if something happens that might thwart your plans, view it as a challenge or a new adventure and not as a sign of a wasted trip.
