Tips to drive across the pearl of Africa.



Known as the pearl of Africa, Uganda is a world travel destination where to practice self drive techniques on the road. Self-drive in Uganda is what every traveller would wish to do for his/her safari journey to explore the highlights of this country at his/her own time. Uganda’s major attractive places are accessed through cars that are 4x4WD since they are located in the rift valleys and mountains that make the cars unable to pass through the roads in difficult times like the rainy times. This is the reason as to why car rental companies in Uganda came into existence. To help travellers with the means  of transport  to use, for people who don’t have them and wish to travel and other travellers who have cars  that are not yet in use due to other  reasons like  mechanical  problems and cars awaiting other documents to move on the roads  Uganda.

To drive across the pearl of Africa you need to be well versed with some techniques since some travellers are traveling for their first time in Uganda.

Get used to Uganda’s road signs and regulations. Having in mind, like any country, Uganda has a body that governs the roads across. Most of the road signs are similar to the British rules governing the high way code. For a safe self drive in Uganda one has to apprehend to the signs .The common signs  that are seen are the zebra crossing round about , turn left arrow and other signs that are  regularly seen along the high way.  Among the rules that car rental companies in Uganda will upfront before their travellers include; Drive while sober, Keep left while driving in Uganda; Do not over speed while driving and many others.

Make enough preparations for a self-drive in Uganda. Since most of the places to visit in Uganda are miles away from the city Kampala, Rental car companies in Uganda advise their travellers to have enough sleep before setting off for a safari. It is argued against travellers to drive while tired as this arises fatigue and unconsciousness to their bodies. Immediately after the flight, car rental agencies in Uganda are glad to drop their travellers to the hotels to have enough rest and preparations for the next day of a self-drive in Uganda.

Inspect the car before you start the journey. Immediately you are given the keys to start the journey, inspect the car together with the car rental agent sent to you to avoid expenses that were caused by earlier damages before using the car for your purpose. This is done by taking photos of the car as evidence. Go for road test together with the car rental agent and find out if the car is ready and in good condition for the road.

Drive a car that you are familiar too. Most travelers always have problems with cars that they rent in Uganda especially if they not used to drive them.  This has been seen to by travellers who go by bandwagon, instead of using auto transmission cars they go for manual transmitted cars in Uganda and verse visa.
